Aagh, Invaders is a side scrolling shoot ’em up built using LibGDX in 48 hours for the 24th Ludum Dare. The theme was Evolution, which Aagh, Invaders attempted to cover with it’s AI. The idea was that every 10 levels or so, the AI would check to see what tactics were beating the player and which weren’t. It would then attempt to Evolve a new generation of antagonists which would be better at defeating the player.
Unfortunately, time got the better of me! Whilst the gameplay was complete, the evolutionary step still needed a fair bit of work as the deadline loomed. It existed, albeit in a very basic form but it was not very obvious to the player that any evolution was happening.
It scored fairly well for a first attempt at a game jam but there is still a long way to go to get proficient at it!
